A congratulations plant marks the thing without making a fuss of it. It works particularly well for a promotion, since it lands at the office, stays at the office, and keeps growing through the part of the job that's actually hard. Something upright with glossy leaves reads as a proper gift on a shared desk.

Graduation and new job plants

Both mark a start rather than an end, which a plant suits better than something finished by the weekend.
