Choosing an anniversary plant

Go larger than you would for most occasions. An anniversary gift that lives in the main room and gets seen every day does more work than something that ends up on a windowsill behind the kettle, so start with the sculptural foliage and the plants with a strong shape. If it's a first anniversary and they've just moved in together, the empty corner is usually the obvious answer.

Engagement plants

An engagement gift lands at an odd moment, when a couple is about to combine two sets of everything and doesn't need more of it. A plant sidesteps that. It goes into whichever place they end up in, it survives the move, and it's still there when the rest of the wedding presents have been quietly rehomed.

Why a plant works as a love gift

Because it keeps going. That's the whole argument, and it's a fair one. A plant given for an anniversary is a slow, visible record of the year: new leaves, a bit more height, roots that needed a bigger pot somewhere around month eight. Gifts that improve with time are rare, and this is one of the few you can order before lunch.

Getting it there on the day

Order before 12pm on a weekday, or before 10am on Saturday, and it's delivered the same day across the suburbs we cover. Our couriers start around 12:30pm and we aim to have everything delivered by 5pm. There are no Sunday deliveries, so a Sunday anniversary means sending it on the Saturday.
